You may be suprised to here that our favourite Seasonal Affective Disorder Lamp for 2010/2011 is the Philips golite. There are a number of reasons why we love this light box. Here is the summary:

The Philips go lite is one of the smallest sad lamps on the market, so it is ideal for using at home, at work, or on trips overseas where the time difference can affect you.

The goLITE uses a combination of white light and blue light, providing the body with the specific spectrum of light that the body needs. With this lightbox you will get the full effect of 10,000 lux White light, but with the combination of white and blue, the light is softer on the eyes.

the goLITE offers something to the user that other small light boxes don’t. It has a wider light field so that you are not limited to sitting really close to the light box, and indeed you also don’t have to look directly at the light. This is good if you want to read a book or do some work during your lightbath.

My favourite feature of this SAD product is that you can programme your light with a timer, so that you know exactly how much light therapy treatment you have had, as well as being able to sav your personal settings.

Now, the price matter. The goLITE is a mid range product, which is right on the money for us. You don’t want to buy too cheap as you will get an inferior product that may only be half as affective. You also don’t want to go over £150 or $150 as you will then be entering into buying design rather than medical benefits.

Here is a review from a happy customer (other than me):

“The Philips goLITE BLU is well designed and has loads of built in functionality. While it is not it not inexpensive it may very well hold the key to helping you feel more energetic in the winter months.”

The Philips goLITE is an economical product to buy for many reasons. It uses LED lights rather than specialised lightbox bulbs, so they have a much longer life. There is also a lesser risk of fire due to the fact that LEDs generate much less heat than other light sources.

You must look into the light from time to time to get the full benefit of the light therapy. The light is only absorbed by the eyes and not beneficial on the skin, although it does feel good!

Sunlight Lamp Review

Uplift LampIf you are looking for a sunlight lamp for seasonal affective disorder or other complaints such as fatigue or insomnia, then I hope that I can help.

You may be looking for a SAD light for the first time, and you of course want to buy the best sad lamp for your lifestyle and good heath. If you are in a rush, here are the links to the best natural sunlight lamps in the UK and US; these are the cheapest we could source.

The goLITE is my personal favourite for the UK. To put it simply, it is small, easy to move around or take to work, and it has the full 10,000 Lux that you need. It is also a great design, and made by Philips you know you are getting a good product.

Here is one of hundreds of reviews that I sourced on the golite:

“This light gives off a strong but ajustable blue light that you don’t need to have sitting directly infront of you like most sad lights, It can be set off to one side and the effect is just as good. I have suffered from SAD. for many years and owned many lights and this one is by far the best. even my wife likes to use it just to relax as it is a every comfortable light to read by or listen to music by.”

Now the Uplift Technologies DL930 Lamp. This is a special one, it is a best-seller in the US, and it is a one of a kind in terms or design and functionality.

This lamp has a large area of light, as well as a stand that allows you to adjust the height and angle of the unit. It is lightweight and sleek in style. It can also be mounted on the wall in your office or home as a space saver.

On any dreary bad weather day, you are robbed of your daily quota of sunlight that is absolutely vital for you to perform at your best. If you live where the climate is very changeable, you will often only be getting around 10% of full natural daylight.

With a 10,000 Lux Sad light you will get the equivalent of natural sunlight on demand. And of course it is perfectly safe to use.

The best part about this light is that it claims to get rid of your SAD within 1 or 2 weeks. It is also glare free, and makes an excellent reading light. This lamp is stylish, and doesn’t look like a conventional light box for sad, so it is very discreet.

Here is a good review that we pulled from our files:

“I bought this as a gift a year ago and am still being thanked for this one. We positioned the light directly over her laptop (seems almost designed for this) and she uses this daily while checking emails, etc each morning. She feels it helps, which is really all that matters. The light is very bright with 2 brightness settings and the bulb has lasted through the year. No complaints at all with this purchase!”

Extra Sunlight Lamp Review Info

I personally live in the UK, which is usually either raining or grey and dull for about half the year. I cannot afford to take expensive trips overseas to warm sunny locations in Winter months, so I decided to invest in a sad desk lamp instead.

It has really improved my quality of life, restoring my natural body clock which normally goes on vacation in Winter, as well as giving be energy boosts that make me feel as well as I do in the height of Summer.

Light therapy for seasonal affective disorder

If you are looking for a Light Therapy For Seasonal Affective Disorder then you have come to the right place. If you want to see our favourites straight away, then here are our top buys from the US and UK (all international shipping):

I have personally suffered from Seasonal Affective Disorder, mostly during the Winter months but also on dreary summer days where the skies are grey and dim. After buying my very first SAD light Winter 2009.  I was so pleased with the results that I decided to create a review site for shoppers like me and you who want to make the right decision on this fairly expensive piece of equipment.

A question that you may be asking is ‘does SAD light therapy really work, or am I just wasting my time and money?’ I can undoubtedly tell you that it does change the chemical balance in the brain and body, lifting your mood and your energy levels, as well as having a calming effect and giving you that sense of wellbeing.

I have been struggling with Winter Depression for most of my life, and it is no joke – it is a disabling condition that affects work, relationships and self confidence. It had been suggested to me on numerous occassions that I should give light therapy a go.

I was then probably in the same boat as you, thinking that it just wouldn’t work, and that it would be an inconvenience to use. The only reason that I decided to give it a go was because I was going through a particularly bad time, and I happened across a Philips lightbox on sale in my local pharmacy.

SAD lightI have now realised all of the benefits, and I want to share them with you.

Firstly, one myth that was expelled for me was that in order for this therapy to work you would have to sit in front of the lamp for at least one hour per day, staring into the light and not getting anything else fun or useful done.

This is not true. With the Philips Golite you can use the light bath for as little as 15 minutes a day. You also do not have to look at the sad lamp directly, you can get on with your usual routine; reading the newspaper or eating breakfast.

The second myth is that all light boxes are large, clunky, and difficult to transport around the home.

This is also not true. My first lightbox was an older model, so it is rather large, but the new Philips golites are small, neat, and fold flat, so it can be carried anywhere around the home or to work. I personally always use mine in the office by the side of my computer.

The golite is great because it has an extremely wide field of light, so you get all the benefits of a full spectrum light in a smaller model.

Thirdly, I thought that light boxes were only used by people with acute or chronic mental health problems. This is also not true.

I know many people, including members of the Sad Light Box Review Team who use them at work and at home for sunlight energy boosts when the sun is nowhere to be seen.

But don’t just take my word for it – here is a selection of fabulous reviews that we found on the Philips goLITE BLU:

“My doctor recommended me this product which piqued my interest and I eventually found this product here on Amazon (Apollo was the company that makes these products, but Philips bought them over). Immediately after a few sessions, I found that I was waking up at 5-6 AM NATURALLY and going to bed at 9-10 PM PHYSICALLY/EYELID HEAVY SLEEPY. I also felt happier too and the reason why this happens is that the blue light increases the production of SERATONIN (the happy go-lucky hormone that is low in depression, etc).”
Michael Bluth, Vermont, January 2009

“So it’s been 9 days since I started using the goLITE and there has been one big change that was worth noting. I have always been someone to sleep a lot. On the weekends it was not unusual for me to sleep 10-12 hours straight. In the short time I have been using this I have been waking up every morning after only 6-8 hours of sleep feeling awake and alert, even when I tried to go back to sleep this weekend I was not able to. I am left to believe that this unit is helping regulate my body clock which is something I have been unable to do for 15 years.”
Julie, Seattle, WA
